Ancient Egypt has always fascinated players. It has been a popular theme for as long as we can remember! Not a year passes without at least a few slots coming out showing off its ankhs, Cleopatras and pharaohs. And now, IGT is joining in on the fun! Deep within this secret temple lies the Book of the Sphinx. Those who can find it and uncover its mysteries will receive fantastic rewards!
Now, we remember playing the original game. And we know for a fact it did not look this gorgeous when we did! We’re not sure on the exact timing of things, but somewhere between 2014 and now, IGT dolled up this release. The animation of the flames is much better now, and all the symbols are in beautiful, glorious HD. Our only gripe with the graphics is the playing card royals: 10, J, Q, K and A. These are filler icons, and don’t fit into the theme at all.
Of course, that’s a relatively minor complaint for an otherwise fun slot! Book of the Sphinx took inspiration from Novomatic’s Book of Ra when designing its gameplay. But unlike many developers, which just made a clone of that game, IGT took it one step further. They put their own, unique twist on the whole thing! So while that famous and thrilling free spins round is still there, you also have the Eye of Ra bonus to look forward to.
IGT’s release has twenty fixed paylines, which cannot be turned on or off. What does that mean for you? It means your wager can only be increased or decreased by adjusting your line bet. We doubt casual players will complain, as they get a GBP 0.20 minimum stake. Meanwhile, high rollers can look forward to a satisfying GBP 100 maximum bet.
The best possible prize you can win is worth 2500x your total stake. And unlike a lot of slots, Book of the Sphinx has great odds of awarding such a big prize. Now, we know what you’re thinking. How do I get myself that GBP 250,000 jackpot? The answer lies with the game’s two special features, both of which can create awesome wins in a flash. But despite this, this release has an RTP ranging between 92.28% and 96.24%. Not great odds, especially when considering our 96% minimum RTP.
Collect three or more Eye of Ra symbols in all positions to trigger its bonus. All Eyes of Ra are replaced with a randomly selected icon. This can be any symbol at all, except for the Wild-Scatter book. These transformed icons then expand to cover their reels, and award prizes regardless of reel position.
The free spins round makes use of a similar mechanic. First off, finding three, four or five book Wild-Scatters nets you ten, fifteen or thirty extra turns, respectively. But before any free spins are played, a random special symbol is selected from the paytable. While extra turns are being played, any special icons will expand to cover their entire reel. Like the Eyes of Ra before them, they pay regardless of reel position.
Book of the Sphinx has fantastic graphics, and fun special features. It borrows a fun concept from Novomatic, and puts its own spin on things. This is why we like IGT as much as we do; they don’t ever half-ass things. They do them right! The only major problem we have with this slot is that its RTP is below 96%. If you do decide to play this game, consider yourself properly warned!
