About Konami Gaming
For those who grew up playing video games from the 1980s until now, Konami is a well-known brand name that occupies a special place in their heart. Many of us have heard of Konami even before their venture into slots – the company is famous as one of the biggest video game creators out there, with iconic franchises like Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania, and Silent Hill.
Konami was actually founded in Japan in 1969 and began its business life as a company that rented and repaired jukeboxes. In 1973, after a successful run with jukeboxes, the company moved over to making arcade machines, also called amusement machines. It was not until 1978 that they released their first product, but within a year they expanded their product offerings to the United States. Possibly the most well-known title of this era of Konami was Frogger, which was actually sold through a licensing agreement with a United States-based company.
In 1982, Konami began establishing their presence here more fully with the creation of Konami of America, which helped them produce and sell titles for the NES system in the late 80s and beyond.
It was not until 1997 that Konami decided to start making inroads into the casino gaming industry, and not until 2000 that Konami became licensed to sell casino games in Nevada – the first step needed to get into the casino gaming market. When they entered the market in 2000, they were the first Japanese company to try to take away market share of casino gaming in the largest market in the world.
Konami's Growth in Casino Gaming
Another big step forward for Konami Gaming was in 2004 and 2005. In 2004, Konami was granted licenses for manufacture and sales of casino machines in a number of other states in the United States, as well as the Canadian provinces of Quebec, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan.
This led to Konami's Casino Management System software being chosen by Quebec's lottery commission to provide system support for all of the government-run casinos in the province. The system allowed for customers to use the same card in all of the casinos and was the reason for the contract being awarded to Konami.
From 2005 onwards, the company moved its HQ to Las Vegas to better capitalize on the US market. Since then, Konami has been generating new titles and new technology like no other company in the industry. Their goal seems to be at the top of the pack for technology while still delivering on all other levels as the small fish in a big pond.
Focus on Slots, Slots and more Slots
Konami is a slot developer. The company has made no effort to expand their coverage on table games or other things online casinos might find interesting. They were able to leverage that focus into creating a great variety of games, each one with superb quality. Unfortunately, the software provider never replicated their success with physical machines in the online market. However, they do have several cool titles we recommend checking out.
Best Konami Games
Fortune Stacks is, in our opinion, one of the best titles Konami has ever made. The reason for that is quite simple: its special features! Action stacked symbols can replace a number of symbols randomly, and those replaced icons get 2x, 3x or 5x multipliers during free spins. Furthermore, each multiplier applies its multiplier separately, allowing some overwhelming wins to occur during the free spins round.
Roman Tribune offers a way to return to the largest empire in the world! Action stacked symbols make an appearance in this game, too. Other special features include free spins with doubled wins and the Balance of Fortune. That bonus allows you to trade your free spins round for a random instant cash prize. You can only use Balance of Fortune if you have more than twenty free spins.
China Shores gives you an opportunity to score not one but two progressive jackpots! Alongside the chance of life-changing wins, players also benefit from action-stacked symbols and a free spins round. During free spins, all prizes are doubled! Keep in mind that the progressive jackpot is only available in the Quick Strike version of this release. China Shores was the first slot Konami introduced to the online environment and remains a popular favorite in both land-based casinos and online.
Adorned Peacock was definitely a slot theme we did not expect to see. At the time it came out, we found it a bit weird, but played it anyway. However, the peacock ended up being iconic enough that it stuck around in our memory years later! Special features include action-stacked symbols and a free spins round. During free spins, reels with a peacock in them are nudged until the reel is covered entirely by the fancy bird.
Great Guardians is a relatively recent release, and one whose special features set it apart from other Konami slots. The main draw is the mystery multiplier bonus, where it applies multipliers to guardian icons randomly. Fun fact: the maximum multiplier can go up to 125x! Other bonuses include free spins and action-stacked symbols.
Gypsy Fire is a popular Konami slot title with an RTP of over 96%. With 243 ways to win, there are a lot of prizes available in this impressive slot game. Arguably the most elegant title in the Konami collection, this brightly colored slot has some nice treats for players. Random multipliers trigger at any moment, giving the potential to increase multiple wins for the chance of lucrative payouts.
Chili Chili Fire has a base game very similar to many other slots in the Konami collection. However, there is a free spins feature that sets this game apart. When triggered, the design catches fire and all low-value symbols are removed, increasing the chance of high wins during the feature.
Lotus Land is a slot based on the theme of a beautiful place filled with lotus flowers. There are five reels and 30 paylines in the game. The colorful theme of the Lotus Land slot game is what makes it stand out, with symbols including a white tiger, a beautiful woman, a gold elephant, a parasol, a snake, and playing card symbols.
Dragon's Law features twin fever mechanics and benefits from the Action Stacked system. It's become a mobile-friendly favorite with attractive gameplay that uses action-stacked symbols which can fill reels for bigger wins.
Castlevania brings the iconic vampire-hunting franchise to the slot world. While currently only available in land-based casinos, this dramatically designed five-reel game with multiple rows of symbols offers huge potential for stacking up incredible wins. The game concept dates back to 1986 when Konami first created it for the Nintendo console, and it gained an army of fans that has continued to this day.
Solstice Celebration is an attractive slot game that uses Action Stacked Symbols which can fill reels for bigger wins. The Sparkle Feature that comes with Solstice Celebration increases your chances of winning. Any symbols with flames surrounding them will nudge until all symbols across that reel carry the same symbol.
