We’re relatively sure we haven’t heard the word dazzle being used in any serious context for a good few years before stumbling into this NetEnt release. And yet, it is an undeniably dazzling experience, with its glimmering diamonds and the promise of getting rich quick, asking players to try their luck to get a jackpot win.
Dazzle Me offers gamblers a 3-3-4-4-5 reel setup, and 76 paylines, which is NetEnt taking a break from the familiar 5x3 playing field we’re used to seeing. To make sure we’re comfortable, they brought out the familiarity of a free spins bonus – and then upped the stakes by bringing in a Wild reels feature!
The user interface sports the familiar NetEnt green and black, with a lot of transparency being applied to make sure it melds well with the colourful backdrop and the reels. Graphics-wise, it seems to be going for a physical machine look – with all the smoothness and high definition visuals that those old machines could only dream of achieving on their own. But like every good physical machine, it has that little bit dedicated on reminding you of all the nice, big wins you could score – so long as you keep playing.
The symbols aren’t anything unique or special. We’re spared any playing card icons here, but at the same time, colourful diamonds of different shapes and sizes aren’t anything new, and neither are the golden bell or the red lucky seven. In fact, it’s the symbols themselves that are the biggest throwback to the days of fruit machines, as the rest is rather modern and polished.
What about the real star of the show, the features? You have Dazzling Wild reels, which appear randomly during the base game, and overlay an existing reel with one full of diamond Wilds. The real fun part of it is that there’s no limit on how many reels can turn fully Wild like this. Could be just one.. or it could be all five!
By contrast, collecting three, four or five Scatters to win eight, twelve or sixteen free spins certainly looks far less glamorous! Not to fear, as NetEnt thought of that as well, and introduced Linked reels, which only occur during free spins. At the beginning of each spin, the first and second reel, or the third and fourth one will be mirrored with each other, increasing your odds of landing a big win.
We quite like all of these features. They’re awesome bonuses, and will definitively move things along should you ever get stuck. The thing that bugs us more is the fact NetEnt seems to have brought in this unique reel structure, but hasn’t used it beyond the Linked reels, and even that could have been easily implemented on a regular 5x3 playing field just as easily. Maybe a minor nitpick, but one we felt was worth mentioning.
It certainly shouldn’t detract you from giving it a go. The graphics are good, but the retro style of the symbols might not appeal to everyone. Animations are solid, gameplay is fun, and the features are very lucrative.
