Zombies Slot Machine

Zombies is a massively loved NetEnt game. With this slot, you’ll encounter a free spins bonus with an increasing multiplier, and an awesome last stand in which you empty a whole lot of shotgun shells into an incoming zombie horde in the mall, stacked Wilds that can really adjust how things will turn out, or a random Wild feature.

There comes a time when we all dream we could get away from the regular routine of life. For the rules of society to stop working, for a disaster to sweep away any limitations, and for the strongest and fittest to survive. That’s the appeal of zombies for many people. Shambling, slow and easy to dodge, but in great numbers and comprised of your fellow humans, it’s every man for himself in this new, shattered world.

The user interface will be rather familiar to anyone who played a NetEnt title before – everything is clearly labelled, easy to access, without too much confusion. One thing that we found ourselves not being too fond of, however, was the familiar bright green that’s part of every NetEnt title, as it clashes with the dark blue backdrop of the abandoned mall fiercely. You get used to it after a while, but we have to wonder if the artists couldn’t have adjusted the exact colour, or maybe changed the backdrop’s colour to fit a bit better.

Even in the post-apocalyptic setting of Zombies, we cannot escape playing card symbols. To be fair to the developers, however, the spray-painted design and the cyan colour make 10, J, Q, K and A look like some hastily applied military markings of safe or dangerous zones. And the rest of the symbols are all about those bloody, gory details. A fireman’s axe and a baseball bat, both bloody and ready for zombie smashing, a detached eyeball, a rotten, bloody brain, a gas mask, and a bloodied chainsaw.

Free spins are activated by collecting three Scatter symbols anywhere on the second, third and fourth reel, and they always reward five extra turns. During this time, after every free spins, the multiplier increases, and you’re taken to the dark mall where you shoot zombies for cash prizes. After five free spins, a lot of zombie shooting, and a multiplier that reaches up to x10, you get to enjoy the other two bonuses. The first are stacked Wilds, which can be nudged up and down to fill the reels, but do not appear during free spins.

The random Wild feature appears randomly, and creates up to six Wild icons randomly on the playing field. It also does not occur during free spins.

While we usually like our features interacting with each other, the free spins bonus is so strong for profit, that, under the right circumstances, having stacked Wilds or random Wilds would make it rather ridiculous. This way, you have cool bonuses you can see during normal gameplay, and once you finally reach the free spins, it’s more or less a guaranteed jackpot.

We quite enjoyed our time with Zombies. It’s a medium volatility slot with an RTP of 97.2%. The visuals and atmosphere are top notch, and the variety of features makes for fun gameplay. The free spins should also see you succeed with some massive wins.
