Merry Money is a Barcrest video slot released in 2015, offering gamblers a 5x3 playing field with 10 fixed paylines, meaning players are not able to turn them on or off at will. You can wager between £0.10 up to £500 per spin, which should please casual gamblers and high rollers in equal measure, as it gives them the option to play at the bet they enjoy. The game has three special features – the Pick Be bonus, the Win Spins or the Halls of Plenty.
As the name implies, the game takes inspiration from Robin Hood. The backdrop is a static image of a heavily forested area, with a path running through it which you can see beneath the reels themselves. The reels are semi-transparent, allowing you to see the forest behind the reels with an odd dark-blue filter laid on top of it. The user interface is the familiar one that Barcrest use in all of their titles, so everything is clearly labelled and accessible, without need to dig through any drop down menus to find what you need.
Symbols are almost exclusively made out of generic playing card icons that you can find it other titles such as 10, J, Q, K and A, with only one more icon having unique artwork, which is the Merry Money one, which simply uses the game’s logo. A bag of gold is this title’s Wild, and it can replace every other icon. The game also does not have any Scatters, but it does have two bonus symbols, both of which have unique artwork. The Pick me bonus is an archery target with arrows sticking out of it, while the Hall of Plenty and Win Spins are both triggered by collecting three Robin Hood symbols from the playing field.
Gameplay and Features
Pick me Bonus is activated when players collect three archery targets anywhere on the reels. Once the feature is activated, players select one of those three to reveal a win. The game then shows you the other wins you could have received, rewards you with your chosen cash prize, and the feature ends there.
Collecting three Robin Hood symbols has him shooting an arrow at the target. If the arrow lands in the red area, it rewards Win Spins, but if it lands in the yellow area, it rewards Hall of Plenty.
Win Spins has you go through a Trail of Win Spins, which is large bonus wheel that guides you through a board game, moving your character by the amount the wheel draws and being rewarded with free spins as you progress through. When you finish with the board game, you play the free spins you were awarded and the bonus ends.
Halls of Plenty, meanwhile, has Robin Hood sneaking through doors and robbing the sheriff of the valuables he’s supposed to be guarding. Each treasure chest you get gives you more cash, and the goal is to get as many as possible before the sheriff wakes up and alerts the guards.
The largest jackpot you can win is 250x your wager for a five-of-a-kind Merry Money symbol win. We could not confirm the game’s volatility. The RTP is 95.1%, which is average for video slots.
